FUSELAGE CREATIONS AVRO VULCAN B2 XM594

Description

Fuselage Creations is proud to present the Avro Vulcan as part of our line-up of legendary aircraft. This commemorative tag has been crafted from tail material removed from Vulcan B.2 XM594, placed at Newark Air Museum.

First flown on 29th May 1963, XM594 was the 58th Vulcan produced at Woodford. Allocated to 27 Squadron in July 1963, XM594 joined the Blue Steel-armed Independent British Nuclear Deterrent Force at RAF Scampton before being transferred to the Waddington Vulcan Wing. In May 1968, it returned to No.27 Squadron at RAF Scampton.

In March 1972, XM594 was flown to HSA Bitteswell for refurbishment before returning to No.101 Squadron at RAF Waddington in September 1972. In February 1975, it was fitted with E.C.M. (Electronic Counter Measures) equipment. In May 1977, XM594 returned to RAF Waddington following a brief visit to HSA Bitteswell and was allocated to No.44 Squadron. Its final RAF appearance came on 17 December 1982, when it took part in flypast over former Vulcan bases and Group Headquarters.

In 1982, RAF sold eight Vulcans, giving them new lives in private museums across Britain. XM594 was earmarked for preservation at Newark and was purchased by Stuart Stephenson for £5,000. The aircraft was flown by Squadron Leader Neil McDougall, who had been involved in diplomatic incident during the Falklands War when he was forced to land his Vulcan in Brazil. McDougall later flew XM594 from RAF Waddington to Newark Air Museum on 7 February 1983, ahead of a blizzard.

XM594 remained on loan under the ownership of the Lincolnshire During its twenty years of RAF service, XM594 flew more than 1,400 sorties, accumulating over 5,300 flying hours. Notably, on 27 June 2015, XH558 conducted a flypast over XM594 as part of its farewell tour across the UK.

Ownership of the Vulcan was transferred to Newark Air Museum in December 2021. Following the transfer, XM594 underwent a complete repaint in 2022, along with restoration work during which certain sections of the tail skin were removed.
