RAWTAG was founded in 2023 by a British commercial pilot and based on the ethos of an original venture called AuroraAeroTags. Working with collectors around the world via a Facebook based collectors group and selling via Etsy, it has gone from strength to strength with some very unusual tags being produced.

Specialising in hand-produced, small batch tag runs and aiming to obtain the rarest material available.

Each piece is produced individually using the same lightly worked techniques aiming to preserve as closely as possible the ‘In-service’ condition. Simply cut and shaped, smoothed to be hand safe, wiped with a sanitising fluid and mounted on a display card.

RAWTAG never applies a surcharge for tag variants. Your tag will be unique to you! Some are offered as a regular tag with backing card, others are offered as a Deluxe box with additional items. Be sure to check the listings for some of the rarest tags available today.

Description

RAWTAG #14: MESSERSCHMITT ME109E.

This is the awesome RAWTAG ME109 Deluxe box.

This package is limited to just 30 deluxe boxes and contains the following:

1x GENUINE ME109E RAWTAG produced from a known airframe, with great provenance.
2 x Individually numbered backing cards.
2 x Pilot dedication cards.
1 x Specially produced presentation box with pull out tray.

The ME109 was one of the Luftwaffes most capable fighter aircraft, truly a match for the RAF Sptifire.
This very special tag release was produced using skin panels obtained from Messerschmitt Me109-E (2803) flown by Feldwebel Frederick Klotz 9/JG51, who was shot down and killed on 15 September 1940 (Battle of Britain Day). Klotz had been flying escort to the second wave of bombers heading for London when he was engaged and shot down by Pilot Officer Christopher “Bunny” Currant, DSO, DFC & Bar of 605 Squadron. Currant also claimed two Dornier Do17s on the same day and notched up a final score of 8 destroyed and 5 shared. Bunny went on to claim at least fifteen kills and survived the war to reach the ripe old age of 94. He passed away in March 2006.
The Me109 crashed at Mascalls Corner, Paddock Wood, Kent and was excavated by Malcolm Pettit in 1972. Our deluxe box remembers this with the pull out tray being designed to show Paddock Wood at the centre of a period map.

Most unusually a large amount of green paint finish remains intact despite its violent ending and time passed since then.

To obtain any genuine BofB material in 2024 is almost unheard of, especially as a convenient tag.
Don’t miss this chance.
