RAWTAG #05: BEAUFIGHTER 11F (R2380)
Grab yourself a piece of GENUINE BRISTOL BEAUFIGHTER 11F Night Fighter!
These ‘tags’ are made from actual panels recovered from Beaufighter 11F R2380 which were located close to RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland.
The panels were washed up on the beach adjacent to the runway approach and carefully cleaned.
After some time had passed the panels changed colour tone slightly and a hand painted feint serial number became visible. ‘R2380’.
Research tells us this aircraft was struck of charge at RAF Lossiemouth on 27 September 1945. How the panels came to be in the sea is a mystery. Perhaps they were fitted to another Beau which was lost at sea. Several are known to have crashed nearby.
What is the Beaufighter Mk.IIF?
The earlier version of the Beaufighter performed very well, but by late 1941 the Short Stirling bomber programme had a higher priority for the Hercules engine it used, and the Rolls-Royce Merlin XX-powered Mk.IIF night fighter was the result.
The Tags are hand cut, shaped and finished before being attached to an attractive backing card.
Once gone, they are truly gone.
Carry this piece of exceptionally rare RAF Wartime history with you or add to your tag collection, for a very sensible price!
