TransportTags is a new and up-and-coming business which makes high quality key tags and memorabilia from historic transportation pieces that have been saved from being scrapped and lost forever.

A small family business with a passion for aviation and transportation inspired them to create TransportTags to share with you.

Their offerings include products made from military aircraft, civilian aircraft, and other assorted new vehicle items, with much to follow in the very near future.

Their ultimate goal is to raise money through the sale of TransportTags in order to restore and display some of the aircraft that they have been collecting for many years. They carefully create the tags from spare and original authentic parts.

Made from the skin of authentic aircraft, cars, helicopters, and a plethora of other vehicles. The parts and vehicles used to create these tags show the paint scheme, design, and wear and tear of that aircraft or vehicle’s life, battle scars and all. Therefore, no two tags are alike.

Some tags have actual battle damage. Bullet holes, blast damage, scrapes and scars. Damage from anti-aircraft fire. Some tags have a hole from where an assembly bolt or rivet was once placed.

The paint and colour will vary from tag to tag as well because of the design of the aircraft or vehicle and its paint pattern, the area on the vehicle that the tag is made from, and weathering, sun fade, use, etc.

Some tags will also have partial lettering or numbers depending on what parts of the aircraft or vehicles they were made from - like tail wing identification, maker/brand info or squadron info.

TransportTags have different thicknesses and weight. It all depends on where it was taken from the original aircraft or vehicle. No two are alike.

This makes the tags even more interesting.

Each tag is truly a work of art in its own right - and a wonderfully unique way to memorialize the aircraft or vehicle from which it originated.

TransportTags can be beautifully purposed as luggage tags, key tags, dog tags, or displayed as a meaningful and historic collectible.

The collection will expand over time with new and different tags, so be sure to check back here often!

Description

Our F-105D Thunderchief tag is proudly handcrafted from the skin of an F-105D Thunderchief that saw significant combat during the Vietnam War.

One of our most prized possessions is the F-105D Thunderchief – Serial #59-1731 – an aircraft steeped in rich combat history. This remarkable Thud is a prolific USAF veteran of the Vietnam War. Formerly bearing the callsign “The Frito Bandito,” it was piloted by Major Jose Olvera and Crew Chiefed by Doug Harried during its tenure in the Vietnam War. One of its most notable missions involved the bombing of the Paul Doumer Bridge, now known as the Long Biên Bridge, which serves as a vital link between Hanoi and the port of Haiphong.

Following its tenure in the Vietnam War, our F-105D was reassigned to the Virginia Air National Guard in 1971 and was shortly thereafter rechristened as “The Huns Hammer,” and continued to serve until 1981. Following Virginia Air National Guard service, it was transported to AMARC in Tucson, AZ for storage in 1981.
After about 15 years of retirement at AMARC, 59-1731 was put up for auction by the DRMO along with another F-105 we acquired, 60-0452, known as “Rebel Rider”. Shortly after winning the auction in the mid 1990s both aircraft were transported to St. Louis, Missouri for storage and restoration work.

We have embarked on a restoration project for the whole aircraft of 60-0452, while portions of 59-1731 have been artfully upcycled for our TransportTags so you can own a piece of a legendary aircraft with epic combat history! However, we are not decimating the legendary “Frito Bandito” and are dedicated to preserving the cockpit.
Our aim is to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to appreciate these extraordinary pieces of history. The story of our F-105D Thunderchiefs is a testament to the monumental journeys that such warbirds can have, transitioning from active service during a large scale conflict to a life showcasing living history both via our TransportTags and the future display of our legendary Thuds.
